Dorothy West LPCC, LMHC
Dorothy “Holli” West is a licensed professional clinical counselor and licensed mental health counselor. She completed her master’s degree in mental health and rehabilitation counseling, bachelor’s degree in sociology and graduate course work specializing in sociology all from the University of South Florida. In her 20+ years of clinical practice, she has worked in a variety of clinical settings including: adult crisis unit, adult substance abuse residential, substance abuse outpatient, community mental health outpatient, juvenile drug court, child abuse prevention and teen intervention/prevention. She also taught sociology and marriage & family courses as an adjunct professor at the collegiate level for 10 years, and she has been in private practice for 10 years. She has advanced training in trauma informed care and resolution, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) for the treatment of trauma, the treatment of substance abuse and dependence, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness practices for mental and emotional well-being. In 2007, she was awarded state-wide “professional of the year” by the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association (FADAA) in recognition of her exceptional work in the field of substance abuse outreach and treatment for adolescents and adults. She does individual and couples counseling and primarily uses CBT and mindfulness training to assist her patients in finding relief from distressing emotional and behavioral experiences. She specializes in the young adult (18-25) and adult (26-65) populations for the treatment of substance abuse, depression, anxiety, social/life skills, postpartum depression, trauma, marriage difficulties and stress from major life events, such as marriage/engagement, graduation, retirement, new parent, new job, new city, caregivers, empty nest, legal issues, work-related stress, divorce and grief/loss.
