Good morning!

Your Family
Good morning!

Are weekday mornings super stressful at your house? Here are some ways you can help the start to your family's day go a little more smoothly and less hectic.

  • Prepare the night before.  One of the best ways to have a good morning is do what you can the night before to prepare for the following day. For example, lay out clothes, set out breakfast items and dishes, pack lunches, clean up the kitchen, run and empty the dishwasher. Even writing out a To Do list can help you keep organized so you know what you would like to accomplish the next day. Make sure all your child knows he is responsible for doing all his homework the night before and that his backpack is filled with whatever he needs for the next day.

  • Get a good night's sleep.   We all know the benefits of sleeping well, so it's important to set up a consistent bedtime routine to help everyone transition to dream land. It may be helpful to unplug from all electronics at least one hour before bed. Also, taking a warm shower/bath may help with relaxing, plus it can save additional time in the morning. Even listening to soothing music may help settle your constantly running mind.
  • Wake up early.  Feeling rushed in the morning can add stress to everyone's day. Waking up a little early -- even just five or ten minutes -- is a good way to remedy this issue. That extra few minutes can also give us some much needed quiet time to kick off our day with a more relaxed temperament. Plus it's always a good idea to have some extra time built in for last minute needs.
  • Keep a consistent morning routine.  Keeping things consistent will help your family know what to expect when they wake up and start their day. Some busy parents choose a set schedule that includes working out before heading out.  Make sure everyone eats a good breakfast, what many feel is the most important meal of the day. Setting up your children with a routine can help keep the whole family on track to start their day stress free - and send everyone off with a smile!
