Mary Matias Akhtar MD
Dr. Matias Akhtar joined PsychBC Cincinnati-Liberty Township from the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where she served children and adolescents for more than nine years and also was clinical director of the psychiatry satellite clinic at Liberty Campus. As assistant professor of child and adolescent psychiatry at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Dr. Matias Akhtar also provided outpatient psychotherapy supervision, supervised residents and medical students in inpatient and community mental health settings, and served as psychopathology course co-leader. She completed the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital intermediate improvement science series and has been involved for the past three years on improving outcomes in the areas of major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. A graduate of Brown University, where she received her undergraduate and medical degrees, Dr. Matias Akhtar completed residencies in pediatrics and psychiatry at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, serving as co-chief resident. She is the recipient of numerous awards from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, including the Jeanne Spurlock Research Fellowship in Drug Abuse and Addiction. Dr. Matias Akhtar is certified in general, child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
