Karal Stern LISW-S, LICDC-CS
Karal Stern has worked for more than 30 years as a clinical social worker in a variety of inpatient and outpatient healthcare and mental health settings. Her initial experience working with older and chronically ill adults and their families was enriched by specialized training and research opportunities in family therapy, addictive disorders, chronic illness and issues of grief and loss. During her tenure as chemical dependency coordinator of the adult mental health, geropsychiatric and dual diagnosis units at Laurelwood Hospital, she expanded her areas of expertise to working with individuals, couples and families impacted by addictive, mood and anxiety disorders throughout the lifespan. She earned her master's degree at Case Western Reserve University, where she was the recipient of the L.W. Neumark Scholarship Award, and her bachelor's degree at Cleveland State University. She has also earned certification in the clinical practice of cognitive therapy.
